I finally bought a subscription to Quicken 2018 in anticipation of Mojave finally breaking Quicken Mac 2007. Q2018 is OK although I much prefer the Quick Report functionality of QM 2007. Since it turns out QM2007 still work fine in Mojave I guess I'll continue running parallel for another year. i just upgraded my MAC to Mohave yesterday and now can't open Quicken; (without warning). I see you upgraded Quicken version yesterday. YIKES. As a customer for 20 years, I am requesting help on what to do next. I have a checking account and a charge card account on Quicken

    Quicken Essentials is a 9 year old unsupported application. It hasn't run on the last few versions of MacOS.
    You will need to upgrade to Quicken 2019. This version will import your Essentials data.

    Yes. El Capitan is the last Mac Operating System that Quicken Essentials will run under. It was written with code that Apple has long since warned was being phased out. Newer versions have been rewritten to run under the newer operating systems.
    You could certainly return your Mac to El Capitan, but I think that is poor advice.

    Now that you know what you need to do (according to John's advise), here's a little more detail...
    Go to https://www.quicken.com/mac/compare and decide which version you need (Starter, Deluxe or Premier). If you don't need 12-month budgeting, loans, or investments, then Starter is probably fine (and most equivalent to Essentials).
    Purchase a new subscription either on quicken.com or check prices at other retailers (eg. Amazon, Staples, etc) where you may find better pricing.
    When you fire up the new program (Quicken Mac 2019), you will see this screen:
    Choose the option circled in red, point it toward your Quicken Essentials file and you'll be up and running.

    @cyndi, just to be clear, Quicken didn't have any upgrade to Quicken yesterday which affected Quicken Essentials. It was your upgrade to the Mojave operating system on your computer that rendered your Quicken Essentials in operable. Essentials was officially discontinued back in April 2015, and has had no upgrades or support since then because the newer Quicken 2015 (now up to Quicken 2019) was the upgrade for Essentials users.
    As a good rule of thumb, before upgrading your computer operating system, it's always a good idea to check the compatibility of any important software you use agains the new operating system. Sometimes things work fine, sometimes there are free minor updates, and sometimes you need to pay to upgrade to a new version (as is the case here). If you check first, then you can make an informed decision about whether or not to upgrade your operating system, and if you do, you're prepared for what won't work without further upgrades. That won't help you now, but it will help you avoid a similar problem in the future.

    Choose the option circled in red, point it toward your Quicken Essentials file and you'll be up and running.

    One addendum to @RickO's excellent instructions above: make sure you understand the differences between Quicken Starter and Quicken Deluxe before you buy. As Rick noted, if you you've been satisfied with Essentials because you don't track any investments, then Quicken Starter would be an appropriate upgrade. But there's a catch...
    Quicken is now sold on a subscription basis: you need to keep paying for a subscription year after year if you want continued program updates, downloads from financial institutions, and access to Quicken Support. Since you haven't had any of these from Quicken with your old Essentials program for years, and have presumably been entering your transactions manually, you might be happy without the need for any of those ongoing services. So what you need to know is that if you purchase a subscription to Quicken Starter Edition, after the subscription runs out in a year, you will not be able to manually enter any more transactions -- you will have to continue to pay to keep your subscription active. However, if you purchase Quicken Deluxe for a few dollars more, you could decide to let your subscription expire after a year and continue to use the program entering data manually. Therefore, while Quicken Deluxe will cost you about $10 more for a one year subscription, you have the option to not renew it and keep using the program and your data without ongoing payments. For most users, I think that is the better option. (If you decide you don't need Deluxe to track investments, and that you are willing to pay for the ongoing annual subscription to keep your program up-to-date, then Quicken Starter Edition is a viable lower-cost choice.)

    My Quicken has been running OK on my MAC El Capitan (10.11.6) until yesterday's upgrade to Mohave.

    I just upgraded to Mojave and lost my Quicken.
    Would you recommend I call Quicken or Apple and try to go back to El Capitan to retrieve my information? I was very happy with EL Capitan and wish I never upgraded.
    Is it possible to screen share with Quicken for help?

    As you've discovered, Quicken Essentials is not compatible with macOS Mojave (nor the last two operating systems before that).
    Quicken's support for Essentials for Mac was discontinued back on April 30, 2015. That means contacting Quicken Support will not help you, as they don't support the old product and won't be able to help you (other than with moving to the current product).
    You have essentially two choices: (1) go back to macOS El Capitan and continue using Essentials or (2) upgrade to the current macOS, import your Essentials data, and move forward with the current Quicken.
    Going back to an older macOS is possible, but it requires a fair amount of work and at least one external hard drive. If you have a full disk backup prior to your OS upgrade, or Time Machine backups from before the upgrade, you can move back in time. But it's a little hair-raising, because you have to wipe your Mac's hard drive and restore from your backup. Of course, that's what backups are for, but if there's anything at all wrong with your backup, you could find yourself in a deadly spot. If you were going to do this, I'd recommend doing an additional full disk backup of your current hard drive (using a utility like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner) to an external drive before you wipe out your Mac's hard drive. If you don't have a spare hard drive available, it's worth spending the roughly $100 to buy one just for this purpose, in my opinion. Another downside to this strategy is that Apple isn't providing software and security updates to El Capitan any longer,r and you may experience problems the longer you go with websites not working with the old version of Safari and the software not working with El Capitan.
    The simpler path forward is upgrading from Essentials to the current product, Quicken 2019. The current Quicken Mac was built on the foundation of Essentials, so much of the overall user interface will look familiar to you, although it's been cleaned up and added to over the past five years. You won't lose anything, and you'll gain additional functionality -- plus it runs on the current macOS, and gives you full access to Quicken Support should you need it. The downsize is that Quicken is now sold on a subscription basis, so you'll need to pay for the software annually, not just once every 5 or 7 years. (Or you could get a one-year subscription to Quicken Deluxe, let it expire after a year, and continue using Quicken manually -- you apparently haven't been using download services, since they haven't worked for Essentials in years; the only downside is that Quicken takes over the right 25% of your screen with a panel of notices about renewing your subscription, even if you're not interested in renewing; their current strategy is to annoy customers into renewing, it seems. But it's workable if you determine you don't want product updates and don't need download services.)
